The Story
This is a fir tree. Species name Abies.
The elements of its natural beauty inspired my creative process and provided me with the name of my design.
Step 1: Experiment With Light
How?
Physical prototypes were the best place to start to visualize the light interacting with the paper
The Vision
This Idea had many successful points that I felt could develop further. These successful features include layering, repetition, and organic visual interest.
Step 2: Optimize Form and Construction
Refinement
-Optimize shade coverage
-Reduce height
-Determine petal size & angle
Make it FLAT for shipping
Once the form was finalized, I focused on optimizing the materials and laser cutting files to make the production cheap and efficient.
User Construction
With all the parts defined, I developed a guide for construction for the consumers to use for assembly
Step 3: Developing Price & Production
This price analysis reflects a combination of what I spent on materials, the cost of fabrication using Ponoko™ as the source of laser cut rates, and lastly determining the profit that I wanted.
